About "The Wanderers"

by Ellen Borggreve

About the artwork

Uprooted trees in a sunlit misty spring forest. Probably my second favourite image of al time. Photographed as a part of my roots project, which was not like many thought a response to the finding of the location where Van Gogh painted the tree roots in his last painting, but rather it was an unconscious response to the loss of my two parents, mee trying to get back on my feet, trying to reconnect to my roots. I photographed to find magic again, which has been the driving force of my life. I had a grandmother who taught me to look for the magic of nature, almost like a second reality and all my life this has been my lifeline. This morning was one I will never forget, or at least I hope I won't. It was the first time I went outside in months and this is what nature provided me with. How can one not believe in the magical side of reality when witnessing this light, these survivors on their roots, the colours of spring and a hint of fog? The title of the image "The Wanderers" comes from a quote which says; "Not al those who wander are lost"
