Haarlem and I, that remains a bond that doesn't just disappear. I lived there for 21 years, so I know the city like the back of my hand. I haven't lived there for a while now, but I still come back regularly. Especially with my camera. Because some places continue to attract, no matter how many times you've been there.
This photo was taken on an evening when everything was fine. No wind, no boats, no people walking into the picture just at the wrong moment. Just peace and quiet. The Spaarne looked as if it was doing its best especially for me. And that view opposite the Waag, with the Teylers Museum added, yes, that remains a classic.
Camera on tripod, settings check, and then: wait. Because the right moment doesn't come on command. Luckily, I had patience (and a warm coat). After a few shots, I knew: this is it.
At home, the second part of the adventure then begins. Post-processing, shifting contrasts, fine-tuning colors, in short, making sure the photo not only shows what I saw, but also what I felt. It takes time, but if the end result is right, then it can go to my shop at Werk aan de Muur.
