About ‘Heritage’ by Susan Hol

You see here a picture of my hand-made tapestry. It was exhibited among all kinds of paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures in Veenendaal (NL) in May 2025. You can see that I used all kinds of ribbons, bows, ties and buttons. This tapestry is not called 'Heritage' for nothing, because almost every item was given to me by my mother-in-law and mother. For years, my mother-in-law in particular very frugally saved all those shiny bows and ribbons she got her hands on via parcels, flower arrangements and other gifts. In turn, my mother had an enormously rich box of buttons. Of course, I had some of my own, which I then used. On a few pieces of ribbon I embroidered a tulip with my mother's embroidery thread.
The original work is 65 x 65 cm long, and fitted with a hanging system. The background is an embroidery patch. The back is finished with a spring green linen patch, cut from an old pair of trousers belonging to my friend Janne, and attached to the embroidery patch by hand with small stitches. Everything on the tapestry I attached with small and larger stitches.
It is a beautiful and cheerful 'portrait' of older women's thriftiness. Spread over several months, I always sewed the next ribbon on the tapestry by feel, first all the horizontal ones and later the vertical ones for contrast. The pink cord circling over the tapestry and the shapes with the buttons were created by doing: looking, choosing, placing, waiting and putting away, repeat.

In all these branches of visual work, I have tried a lot, found my own way, but also often had lessons from various professionals. What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
