About ‘Old city wall’ by Jan van der Knaap

The last preserved part of Utrecht's medieval city wall. This city wall can be found in the Zocherpark near the Lucasbolwerk, and near the Stadsschouwburg. The wall originally consisted of a thick foundation on which a shield wall was built. On top of that came a row of arches on pillars. These arches can be seen here. The arches had to carry the ramp on which the defenders stood. The construction of the wall was started after Utrecht was granted city rights in 1122 and the right to defend itself. The full extent of the wall enclosed the medieval city centre. This part was built between 1577 and 1579.
In its immeasurable wisdom, the municipality of Utrecht once decided to place black racks in the arches, perhaps as a bicycle shed. I took those racks away, because they simply weren't there in the Middle Ages. For historical reasons I made the photo in black and white.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
