In 2010, it was announced that US airlines United Airlines and Continental Airlines were merging. The United Airlines name remained, the aircraft were given the Continental Airlines colour scheme.
The merger created a network of 370 destinations in 59 countries. The new airline giant was to become a strong counterpart to Delta Air Lines, which had previously merged with Northwest Airlines.
