About ‘Museum De Wachter (museum mill)’ by Edwin Kooren

The Wachter is a museum mill near the village of Zuidlaren in North Drenthe, situated on the Zuidlaardervaart to the Zuidlaardermeer. The museum is open from the end of April to the beginning of November.

The windmill was built in 1851 for grinding grains and spices. It is also an oil mill where oil is extracted from linseed. If there is not enough wind the mill can be powered by a steam engine. Linseed oil was also pressed with three oil wringers. Now there are still one oil wringer in the mill and one outside. The mill also has a generator.

The mill is an octagonal thatched mill on a stone base with the scaffolding at 9.55 metres.

The mill has two grinding couples and a set of edge stones.

The sails are 21,75 m long and have a special design of the sails with brake flaps. The brake flap consists of the lower half of the sail, which rotates in its entirety. The jib runs far beyond the back of the main boom. The brake flaps are operated by hand. The rods are made of steel and made in 2015 by the manufacturer Molema. The inner rod has number 68 and the outer rod number 69

The cast iron windshaft was cast in 1904 by De Muinck Keizer Martenshoek and has number 121.

The mill is set to the wind with a pulley. The cap rotates on a wooden crawler, Medendorp system.

The mill is caught (braked) by means of a strut catcher with a lever and a thumb.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
