Shot of the Chicago skyline taken from the 360 Chicago observatory.
Chicago is one of my favorite cities in the US. I stayed there for a few days and had deliberately set aside time to photograph. As always, my camera gear went with me, and this time I had set my sights on a shot from the 360 Chicago observatory, a place with impressive views of the city.
It was at the end of the day. The sun was slowly setting, colouring the sky in warm hues of orange and purple. From the height, I could see how the city stretched out, with the Willis Tower as its recognizable centerpiece. The streets began to light up, and the combination of the city lights and the sunset gave the picture exactly the atmosphere I was looking for.
I set up my tripod, checked settings, and quietly worked on my composition. No rush, just enjoying the view and capturing the moment.
At home, I developed the shot further. As always, I take my time with this, colour, contrast and details have to be right. Not only technically, but also in terms of feeling.
The result is a cityscape that is personal to me. Chicago as I experienced it: grand, warm and full of energy, captured in the light of a beautiful sunset.
