A plant of blue grapes grows among the hailstones of the winter that is almost over. Blue grapes are one of the first plants to emerge in early spring. Flowering time is between March and May, but I have never seen them in the garden later than March. They often face the harsh aftermath of the expiring winter, with snow and hail. Then you get a contrast with the cold grey winter and the fresh colourful spring. Blue grapes are counted in the asparagus family, but nowadays also more in the hyacinth family. They are spring bloomers that store their energy in the bulb.
