For my trip to New York City, I had naturally packed my camera gear in my suitcase. As always beforehand, I had a few ideas to photograph. I was hesitating between the Top of the Rock and the Empire State Building. In the end, I chose the latter because I was in Manhattan well before sunset and the Empire State Building was around the corner from our hotel.
Now I had been here once before in 2017 so it was about time to go to the 86th floor again. Unfortunately, you can't use a tripod here but I had come up with a ruse for that this time. In the Netherlands, I had bought a special metal plate on which a ball head could be placed. I could use this to have a stable base for my camera and zoom lens.
Once I arrived at the top, I immediately got a smile on my face again - what a city! The view is in all directions but for me the direction to "Upper Manhattan" is the favorite.
Now it was just waiting for the sun to set and the lights to turn on the skyscrapers. I had several lenses with me for different purposes. For this close-up photo of Times Square, I had specially brought my 100-400mm zoom lens. After about two hours, I was done and could go to my hotel satisfied.
All the shots I take during my travels, I edit at home from behind my computer to make them suitable for your wall.
